DREAM Summer Fellow

The DREAM Summer is a part of our student support team and is focused on updating our resources, such as our Scholarship list.

Karen Velazquez, a second year undergrad student at Grand Canyon University pursuing a degree in Government with an Emphasis in Legal Studies and a Minor in Forensic Psychology was born in Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico and migrated to Phoenix, AZ at 6 months old. Karen graduated from Sunnyslope High School in 2016 unaware of how to navigate life due to her status. Fortunately, in 2021 she was awarded the Dream.US scholarship which provides undocumented students with a scholarship to pursue higher education.

She is currently the secretary for the Canyon Dreamers Club, which is dedicated to supporting undocumented/DACA-mented students at GCU. Karen is eager to advocate for those who lack the means to achieve their educational and professional aspirations due to their status and hopes to be of support during her time with ScholarshipsA-Z. Karen plans to attend law school and become an Immigration Attorney in order to advocate and support her community.
