Selene Leyva (she/her/ella) was born in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico and raised in Tucson, Arizona. With a dream to attain a higher education, Selene navigated Pima Community College and the University of Arizona as a DACA recipient. 

With the support of Scholarships AZ, friends, family and the community, Selene received her Bachelors in Nutritional Sciences and became a Registered Dietitian. She now gets to learn with and learn from the same Tucson community she grew up with by connecting K-12 students to food utilizing school gardens across the Tucson Unified School District as a Program Coordinator for the University of Arizona School Garden Workshop. Additionally, Selene is currently a graduate student completing a Masters in Public Administration with a focus on non-profit leadership.

Selene is a proud daughter to immigrant parents, a learner within the community, and supporter of higher education for all.
